CONTACT USThere are no longer limits on the number or total amount of “green” loans that can be borrowed under the SBA 504 program.
As of April 30, 2024, the Small Business Administration (SBA) has lifted the $16.5 million cap on Energy Public Policy projects, commonly referred to as “green” loans, financed through the SBA 504 Loan Program. This change opens up significant opportunities for businesses looking to invest in energy-efficient and renewable energy projects.
Here are some key benefits of using the SBA 504 Green Loan:
• Larger Loan Amount – The SBA can now lend up to $5.5 million per project, compared to a $5 million maximum for non-green projects. This increased funding allows for more substantial investments in energy-saving and renewable energy technologies.
• Unlimited Aggregate Lending – Borrowers can now secure multiple SBA 504 “green” loans with no cap on the total capital amount. This means businesses can undertake several projects simultaneously or consecutively without worrying about reaching a borrowing limit.
To qualify for an SBA 504 Green Loan, borrowers must either reduce energy consumption by at least 10% through building upgrades or generate at least 15% renewable energy (such as solar, wind, geothermal, hydropower, or biomass) through property upgrades.
With these changes, the SBA 504 Green Loan program is now more accessible and beneficial. It encourages businesses to adopt greener practices and technologies, supporting environmental goals while reducing operational costs and enhancing sustainability efforts.
