BLP and Waukesha State Bank Drive Brookfield Ownership Transition, Marking ‘Heavy Hitters’ Milestone

Brookfield, WI – For more than 25 years, Pistol Pete’s Bar & Grill has been a Brookfield favorite, known for its homemade pizza, wings, fish fry, and live music. When the longtime owner decided to retire, it created an opportunity for new ownership to carry on its legacy.

Jeff and Victoria Schmidt stepped in to do just that, reintroducing the business as Schmidty’s Bar & Grill – Off the Rails. Backed by decades of combined experience in hospitality and business operations, the Schmidts are building on the bar’s strong foundation while bringing new energy to the space. Their plans include expanding live music to a weekly lineup, extending hours from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., enhancing the sports viewing experience, and expanding food and beverage offerings.

Making this transition possible required a strong financial partnership. Business Lending Partners (BLP) worked closely with Joel Benz, former Vice President of Business Banking at Waukesha State Bank, to structure an SBA 504 financing solution that met the needs of the project. Waukesha State Bank financed 50% of the total cost, while BLP provided 35% through the SBA 504 loan, allowing the borrowers to move forward with just a 15% down payment.

This project also marked a significant milestone for Joel Benz, who earned recognition in BLP’s Heavy Hitters Club, a distinction reserved for lending partners who have completed at least five SBA 504 projects with BLP. The program honors top lending professionals who go above and beyond to help small businesses grow and strengthen local communities. As part of this recognition, members receive a personalized bobblehead and entry into this exclusive group.

Through partnerships like this, BLP continues to help businesses grow, transition, and thrive while strengthening communities across Wisconsin.

BLP is the finance team for the Racine County Economic Development Corporation (RCEDC). Every project must be evaluated and reflect an element of community development.

BLP, with offices in Racine County and Brown County, is licensed to serve businesses and collaborate with banks throughout Wisconsin. Its commitment to supporting small businesses and enabling franchise growth has made it a trusted partner for entrepreneurs seeking to leverage the benefits of SBA lending programs.
