Anchored Roots Vineyard Blossoms in Door County Thanks to SBA 504

Town of Egg Harbor, WI –  In 2020, Amy and Eric Gale embarked on a journey to create a unique destination that combines their passion for wine with their entrepreneurial spirit by opening Anchored Roots Vineyard & Winery in Egg Harbor, WI. Anchored Roots offers a distinctive experience that includes: vineyard walks, meetings with growers, grape and wine tastings, allowing visitors to fully experience the grape-to-glass process.

Wisconsin natives, Eric and Amy discovered their love for wine while residing in Washington State. Inspired by their time there, they decided to return to Wisconsin to pursue their wine passion. Eric’s nearly 20 years in agriculture and farming, including 7 in viticulture and vineyard management, combined with Amy’s 15 years in events and hospitality, equipped the Gales to successfully run a winery in Door County, producing outstanding wines and hosting premier events.

To finance the land, construction, and equipment for Anchored Roots Vineyard & Winery, the Gales worked with the Bank of Luxemburg and Business Lending Partners (BLP). BLP is an SBA certified development company able to provide the SBA 504 loan to businesses such as Anchored Roots. Through BLP, the SBA 504 loan funded 30% of the overall project, the Bank of Luxemburg provided 50%, and the remaining 20% portion was provided by Amy and Eric Gale. Two of the primary benefits of the SBA 504 program are the reduced down payment as well as the low, fixed interest rate.

Working with Business Lending Partners allowed us to pursue a business venture that wouldn’t have been possible if we only used conventional funding. By partnering with BLP, we’ve built a business and a wine brand that is positioned for success in the marketplace and has much to look forward to in the future. Our interactions with the BLP staff were positive, helpful, and ultimately successful in achieving the funding we needed to begin.

Gale Family

The Anchored Roots vineyard boasts 38 acres of land in Door County where they promptly commenced planting vines for future winery expansion. On the vineyard, they grow cold-hardy varieties like Marquette, Petite Pearl, and La Crescent, and they also source traditional wine varieties from Washington State. In 2023, they began producing their own wine from their property, with the first harvest anticipated for fall 2024.

Anchored Roots features a western-style barn that complements Door County’s scenic beauty. Situated on Highway 42 and Willow Road, they’re a highlight of the Wisconsin Wine Tasting Tour, the only Door County winery on the esteemed statewide route.

BLP is the finance team for the Racine County Economic Development Corporation (RCEDC). Every project must be evaluated and reflect an element of community development.

BLP, with offices in Racine and Green Bay, is licensed to serve businesses and collaborate with banks throughout Wisconsin.
