City of Burlington funds

Burlington’s programs were designed specifically to assist businesses in the City of Burlington with the objectives to encourage the creation and retention of permanent jobs, new private investment, perpetuate a positive and proactive business climate, attract new businesses, maintain and promote a diverse mix of employment opportunities, and help implement the City of Burlington’s Redevelopment Plan.

Burlington Revolving Loan Fund

This program was designed specifically for businesses in the City of Burlington.

Eligible uses of funds

  • Land and building purchase
  • Construction and renovation
  • Site preparation, demolition and remediation
  • Leasehold improvements
  • Equipment, furniture and fixtures
  • Professional fees
  • Working capital
  • Other purposes as deemed eligible by the RCEDC Loan Committee and Executive Committee

Fees

  • Estimated $1,600 legal fee
  • 1.5% processing fee
  • Out-of-pocket closing costs​

Requirements

The project must benefit the community by meeting one or more of the objectives below.

  • Encourage the creation and retention of permanent jobs particularly those that pay above median income
  • Encourage new private investment in the City of Burlington (City) in the form of private fixed asset investment, particularly in land, buildings which contribute to increasing assessed values, but also investments in furniture and fixtures and equipment
  • Perpetuate a positive and proactive business climate, which encourages the retention and expansion of existing businesses and helps to attract desirable new businesses
  • Maintain and promote a diverse mix of employment opportunities and to minimize seasonal or cyclical employment fluctuations
  • Implement the City of Burlington’s Redevelopment Plan goals and objectives
  • Encourage thriving retail areas by providing incentives to businesses to enhance or fill empty storefronts and vacant buildings

Burlington Matching Grant Program

GRANT REIMBURSES UP TO 50% OF ELIGIBLE COST
UP TO $15,000 PER APPLICANT

Burlington is home to many dynamic and growing businesses. To support these businesses, the City leadership has established a new matching grant program.
Through funding from the City of Burlington, a Matching Grant Program (MGP) was established with the goal of providing a means for small and medium-sized for-profit and non-profit organizations to establish a new operation, expand an existing operation or construct or improve a facility for lease to business(es) located in the City of Burlington.

For-Profit Businesses

Burlington’s Matching Grant Program’s purpose is to create and retain of permanent jobs , leverage private investment , and perpetuate a positive and proactive business climate.

  • Expand an existing business
  • Located in the City of Burlington
  • Current with all financial obligations

  • Demonstrate ability to sustain significant and long-term impact
  • Possess well-defined objectives and measurable outcomes
  • Include financial commitments from funding other organizations
  • Illustrate plans for long-term sustainability
  • Other purposes as deemed eligible by the City of Burlington
